Riders for Health, Safety, and Dignity

Overview

The BodaCare Program, spearheaded by Centrumberliner Medical Centre (CBMC), is a community-driven initiative that partners with boda boda riders to improve healthcare access, safeguard women and girls from GBV risks, and deliver healthcare and dignity kits to underserved communities.

  • Beyond transport, boda riders are trained as health ambassadors who:
  • Promote positive health-seeking behaviors.
  • Advocate for safe deliveries under professional healthcare workers.
  • Provide earlier response to emergencies, including accidents, obstetric complications, and referrals to hospitals.
  • This integration of mobility, dignity, and emergency care ensures that no woman, girl, or community member is left behind.

Objectives

  • Improve emergency response times for accidents, maternal complications, and urgent hospital referrals.
  • Encourage facility-based deliveries and regular antenatal care.
  • Foster positive health-seeking behavior through trusted rider ambassadors.
  • Ensure equitable delivery of dignity kits and supplies in hard-to-reach areas.
  • Reduce GBV risks during travel by creating safe rider networks.

  • Safe Maternal Transport: Riders on-call for expectant mothers needing antenatal, delivery, or postnatal transport.

  • Dignity Kits Delivery: Riders deliver essential dignity kits and medical supplies to schools and communities.
